Hello!

I’m Toyo, a part-time potter based in East London.

I’m originally from Osaka, Japan. I learned basic pottery skills in my twenties in Osaka. Then I got busy with other things in my life and I hadn’t touched clay for years until recently. I was so excited when Turning Earth E10 studio opened in Leyton that I became a member potter after having taken some courses to brush up my rusty skills. Now, I have built a tiny pottery shed in my back garden equipped with a small wheel and a small kiln to complete!

I love the simple and warm earthy looks of Japanese traditional yakimono such as Mashiko, Shigaraki and Bizen. I am still in search of my own style by combining the traditional ‘wabi-sabi’ beauty and practical versatility with a modern twist - I want to make something you will use a lot every day and cherish for a long time!

I can only make small batches so I do not have many in stock regularly. But I will let you know when I have enough stock to sell online. Please register your email to receive updates from me!

Thank you.
